Our Programs in Ottawa

Reaching Out to Isolated Seniors

HTAC is the lead agency in a network of groups who've come together to identify and assist socially isolated seniors. Working with the Interfaith Network for Outreach to Isolated Seniors, the Good Companions - Community Support Services, City of Ottawa Public Health, and others.

Reaching Out to Isolated Seniors hopes to break the patterns of social isolation for the elderly by educating non-traditional referral sources (e.g. banks, apartment managers, stores) and by launching public awareness programs providing information on the signs of risk and how to get help. The group provides a single access number which can refer seniors to any service they may require. Currently this is a pilot project availabe in the boundaries of the Good Companions - Community Support Services, north of the Queensway between Preston Street (west) and Blair Road (east). The project launched city wide Nov. 2, 2005

Elderly in Need program

The Elderly in Need program provides one-time grants (up to $1000) to assist seniors in crisis. The objective of this program is to improve the senior's quality of life, improve their health and safety and to provide a short-term intervention while longer term solutions for their needs are being developed by health and social service professionals in the community. The program is offered in the amalgamated City of Ottawa and the United Counties of Leeds, Lanark and Grenville.
